A handkerchief celebrating the film star, singer and drag queen, Divine.

Divine

Words and handkerchief by Bok Goodall

At a party in a flat on Wardour Street in 1986-ish I think, I met the divine Harris Glenn Milstead. I was starstruck! The larger-than-life star of Pink Flamingos, Female Trouble and Hairspray was rather taken with my gorgeous friend. My gorgeous friend wasn’t interested but when Mr Milstead told him he would give him the best blow job he had ever had, or was ever likely to have, he thought it might be worth a go! Needless to say he got the blow job of his life but then couldn’t face anyone at the party, so he jumped out of the window (unharmed) and we were never allowed to talk of that night again!

This artwork is part of The Wall of Sexual Heroes, a collaborative textile art piece featured in our previous exhibition at the Horse Hospital (2022) and Bow Arts Lab (2023). All embroidered, printed and appliquėd handkerchiefs celebrate unsung heroes of sexual emancipation, activism and innovation.

The Wall is an organic work. If you would like to contribute, please get in touch with The Keeper
